A brief history of how DeBonis & Davin came to be....

In May  1906 when Joseph DeBonis was only 15 years old he arrived at Ellis Island in New York from Italy .  He soon
acquired work for the railroad in Danbury, Cn. receiving wages of only $1.00 per day for a 10 hour day.  When Joe was 16 he
went to work as a fireman and gardener at an orphanage in Verbank, New York. Then  in 1910 after three years, Joe moved to Fitchburg, Ma. where he found employment at Fish's Dairy Farm in Lunenburg.  By the time Joe was 20 he met his sweetheart Ottilia and soon to be wife. Upon return from their honeymoon (all the way to Clinton Ma.) they both worked for the Fitchburg Yarn Mill where Joe became the boss grinder.   Joe worked there until 1924, at the age of 33, he bought and operated a
grocery store for several years during the depression. In 1938 when Joe was 48 he started a landscape business consisting
of 3 greenhouses to grow cut flowers and potted plants.  In 1945, after the war, Joe opened a flower shop on Valentines Day
with his son Silvio DeBonis  at 715 Main St Fitchburg and then later moved to it's present location at 900 Main St
Fitchburg, Ma.  With his son Flavio he opened a garden center at 55 Canton st Fitchburg, Ma.  and later in 1950 a
garden center and nursery at 1316 Main St North Leominster, Ma.

After a lot of years and a few marriages the seeds Joe planted are still growing strong. The DeBonis family still owns and operates  DeBonis & Davin Flower Shop  it is now run by Joe's granddaughter Carol and her husband Ray.
